A major North American Steel Corporation awarded NCO to design, manufacture, and supervise installation and commissioning of a housingless vertical stand and its drive train to enable the factory to increase its billet size. The order also included a complete insulated roller table, to retain billet heat, and a roll change robot. The stand features 750 mm rolls, with complete pre-assembly of on-board piping and electrical cabling, in order to minimize installation and commissioning time to only 2 weeks of shut down and maximize reliability for immediate service. The insulated table will enable the customer to save considerably on heating energy and minimize billet head to tail temperature differential for better product tolerances. NCO conducted all process and site engineering for this upgrade, designed the foundation profiles, designed and manufactured the equipment. The equipment was pre-assembled on-site without production downtime and installed successfully during a shut down in the first quarter of 2021. All the equipment, including gearbox were manufactured, tested, pre-assembled in NCO workshops in Italy from European material.
